Dr. Arne Johannssen

I am an Assistant Professor of Statistics and Data Science at the University of Hamburg, Germany. My focus in research and teaching is on Artificial Intelligence, Computational Statistics, Statistical Inference and Statistical Learning with applications in Business and Economics. I am interested in various areas of Business and Economics and especially in the managerial and economic aspects related to Industry 4.0. I have published numerous papers in renowned international journals, in particular in the top-tier journals of "Artificial Intelligence", "Statistics & Probability" and "Industrial Engineering". I am among the top 5% of scientists worldwide across all disciplines who published their first paper in 2017.

My research activities are primarily concerned with the development of statistical and intelligent techniques to implement the concept of smart manufacturing, which involves optimizing all phases of the manufacturing process, reducing waste, and creating new smart products and services of high quality. In particular, I am focused on anomaly detection to improve reliability and resilience in smart manufacturing. I utilize the data from manufacturing processes to continuously improve the efficiency of processes and manufacturing productivity by detecting anomalies, so I have a sustainability focus on narrowing the resource loops.

I am also interested in the application areas of Health Care, Medicine 4.0, Finance, Insurance, Marketing and beyond. Often a practical problem is the trigger for me to develop a specific method to solve the concrete problem, which is why I have several collaborations with companies and industry. My research is funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG), among others.
